8th July - Skidpan training

Another fantastic evening last night! Portsmouth & Southsea Round Table just gets better and better!

A visit to the Skid Pan at Goodwood Motor Circuit educated us in the art of controlling a car when skidding!

We began with a briefing from our two instructors (Richard and Wayne). This included everything we didn't really want to know about - how to look after your tyres - who has the best car - who Antony reminded the instructor of (Andre Agassi)?

Anyway we eventually got down to the important bit about how to control the car when skidding. Having listened to the instructions carefully, we took it in turns to have a go on the oily and very smelly skid pan (not much bigger than a pool table)!!!

A couple of hours later we came to the end of our session and the instructors drove round and showed off for a few minutes.

Presentation of our certificates followed, then into Chichester we raced (and skidded) for some fine food and drink.

Well done to F&S for coming up with an event completely different to anything we have done before!

Brilliant and we all look forward to many more exciting events!

24th June - Roundtable meets the local RNLI

On Thursday 24th June, Portsmouth & Southsea Round Table enjoyed an evening at the Eastney RNLI station. We all felt we had learnt a lot from the initial talk and questions were asked by the dozen! After a look around the boats and equipment, Mark and Dan tried on the suits and helmets - the evening was extremely hot and they both decided to go for a short run, just to get the feel of how hot the suits can be. Unfortunately they were not put through the sea test which would have been great fun!

On completion of the 'culture' part of the evening, we moved across the road to an excellent steak house. The food was great and so was the beer - the company was of course superb!

As a prompt reminder of how active the station is hours before the RNLI were in the news for making a rescue.

23rd April - Roundtable hosts comedy night for Rainbow Trust

The Portsmouth & Southsea Round table hosted an extremely successfull comedy night in aid of our chosen charity, the Rainbow Centre in Fareham.

21st April - AGM hosts farewell to Tablers

Portsmouth & Southsea Round table held its annual general meeting on Wednesday the 21st and bid farewell to some of its old boys.

Chris Tomes, Mark Hooper and ex-national president Peter Manley were all given a fond goodbye, but we know we will see them again soon at table events.
